German Classical Literature (Literatur der Deutschen Klassik)
GERM 340 SP
This course will include close reading of selected texts from the works of Johann V. Goethe and Friedrich Schiller, the two authors who have defined the German literary and cultural traditions of the last 150 years.
Poetry, prose, and dramatic works
will be read and discussed in class.
MAJOR READINGS
Among the works read will be Goethe's NOVELLE and FAUST; Schiller's WALLENSTEIN and selected prose and poetry by both authors.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Several oral reports and papers.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Regular attendance and participation in class discussion is expected.
