Imaginary Voyages: From Satire to Science Fiction
FREN 251 SP
From contemporary utopias of allegorical kingdoms and exotic lands to futuristic accounts of time travel and lunar exploration, this course will examine French voyages (i.e., critiques of literature, mores and politics)
from the reign of Louis XIV to the
20th century. Major authors include Cyrano de Bergerac, Montesquieu, Diderot, Voltaire, Restif de la Bretonne, Verne, Tournier, Boulle.
