Perceval's Mother

This course will investigate concepts of motherhood and especially the mother/son relationship in 12th-century France through a study of the representation, role and significance of Perceval's mother in Chretien de
Troyes' STORY OF THE GRAIL. We will
also read accounts of other literary and historical mothers of the time.

This course will be taught in French. Most readings and all written assignments and class discussions will be in French. Students should have completed FREN223, FREN224 or another upper-level course before enrolling in
this one.
