Maigret and the French Detective Novel

Georges Simenon is the best-selling French-language author of all time, and Maigret, the French equivalent of Sherlock Holmes or Hercule Poirot, is the best known of his creations. Students will study several of these
novels as an introduction to
important aspects of contemporary French life and ways of thinking.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Students will write, and rewrite, a short detective story in French over the course of the class.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This half-credit course will meet MW during the first half of the semester. Most readings, all class discussion and all writing will be in French. Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or
communicate directly with the
instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
