Visions of Women Contemp Brazi
FIST 227 SP
This course will explore the reality of women in contemporary Brazil. From singer Carmen Miranda to political activist Benedita da Silva, Brazilian women have had a major role in constructing national identity and
promoting social change. Through
fiction, testimony, criticism, essay, and film we will explore individual examples of Brazilian women, from stereotype to exile, and their contribution to questions of poverty, politics, race, immigration, and gender.
