Ibsen and Shaw
ENGL 233 SP

This course is an intensive study of selected works by two of the greatest figures in modern drama, whose careers remarkably parallel and intersect with each other.

MAJOR READINGS

Ibsen: BRAND, A DOLL HOUSE, GHOSTS, THE WILD DUCK, HEDDA GABLER and others. Shaw: ARMS AND THE MAN, MAJOR BARBARA, PYGMALION, HEARTBREAK HOUSE, SAINT JOAN, and others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two papers of moderate length. Plays must be read closely and more than once.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office. More than three absences affect a student's grade negatively. More than six absences will affect a student's grade drastically.
