This course covers sex, class, gender, empire, race, morals and religion in the writings of Hume, Cleland, Swift, Johnson, Boswell, Gibbon, Leapor, Equiano and Burke.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

One mid-term, one paper, one final exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

You must have taken ENGL 201, or you may take it concurrently with this course, or you may obtain an override form. Punctual and regular attendance. Participation in classroom discussion. This course counts toward the English Department's pre-1800 requirement. There is no wait list.
