Two Cultures: British & American
ENGL 221 FA

Crosslistings:
AMST 221

Two English-speaking cultures come from a (more or less) common source, yet few fail to make the distinction between British and American. This course takes these differences as its subject matter: How does Keats differ from an American poet, Francis Bacon from an American painter? Are the differences constant for the past three centuries, or are the differences accelerating? British and American painters and poets from the 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries are the materials for the study.
