The course offers an introduction to contemporary writing in several genres, including fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction, as well as a brief discussion of publishing. A number of writers will visit the class to read and discuss their work, among them U.S. Poet Laureate Robert Pinsky and award-winning fiction writer Robert Stone. Students will attend lectures and readings by the visiting writers, meet in small discussion sections, and work on several research or writing projects. Although this is not a writing course, it will be useful to students who wish to train themselves to write.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
