Academic Year 2000/2001
Storyfirst Online
ENGL 142 FA
Learn how short stories build from the idea you had into living, breathing fiction. Class meets online in an imagination electronic community specially designed for the course. Discuss your writing in a dynamic
real-time workshop and one-on-one
conferences. In this user-friendly, text-based environment, anything is possible, and nobody cares if you have a bad hair day, because you are what you type. More at http://www.wesleyan.edu/~storyfirst.
MAJOR READINGS
You'll read my weekly essay on writing dialog, use of detail and other major aspects of fiction writing. In addition to reading and discussing others' work online, you'll be expected to read and post to a class mailing
list about everybody's stories and
fiction in general. Don't worry, you'll have plenty of technical support.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
You'll write between five and eight pages weekly, turned in on an absolute deadline schedule as real-time workshops will center on your work. Be prepared to give your opinions on each week's stories in discussion and in
posts to each other and to the
class list.
