Antitrust Economics: Regulations by the Market
ECON 224 FA

This course addresses attempts to preserve competitive rivalry in the United States economy. Class discussion centers on examples of governmental intervention through the antitrust statutes (Sherman, Clayton, F.T.C., Robinson-Patman and Cellar-Kefauver acts) on cartels, price-fixing conspiracies, predation, mergers, monopolies, unfair acts and practices, discrimination, and tie-in sales.

MAJOR READINGS

Primarily selected court opinions since 1890.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Written final exam as scheduled by the Registrar. Assignments: Cases assigned daily to be discussed in class. Occasional short papers. Considerable importance to class discussion.
