Basic and integrative processes of nervous systems are considered with attention to their roles in species-typical behaviors. Initial consideration of cellular properties of individual nerve cells, synaptic interactions and neuroanatomy forms the basis for studying systems of neurons and their behavioral significance during the remainder of the semester. Topics include sensory transduction, central processing of sensory information, neuronal basis of control and production of behaviors, sensory basis of orienting and navigation and sensory-motor integration.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
