Studies in Asian Art: Seminar on Narrative Scrolls

This course is an investigation of Japanese narrative scrolls of the 12th to 14th centuries. These scrolls are a specialized form of painting that utilizes a variety of almost cinematographic techniques to transcend the fixed temporal and spatial viewpoint characteristic of most Asian and almost all Western art. EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
