The Prehistory of North America
ANTH 268 FA

Crosslistings:
ARCP 268

People used to living in arctic conditions in Siberia crossed the Bering Strait and found two uninhabited continents of temperate and tropical environments. Their history is that of learning how to live in those new habitats--the last great experiment in human adaptation. The primary focus of the course will be on this adaptation (cultural ecology) and the resulting diversity of Native American societies. The final segment of this course will examine the effects of Native American-European contact in this period immediately following 1492.
