We shall examine some attempts to make generalizations about America--art, film, photographs. Our aim will be to try to understand not just the image, but some of the problems that occur when we try to abstract so complex a thing as an image or so complex an idea as America has proved to be. This seminar wil require group and individual projects in particular areas (film, magazines, advertisements). The aim of the colloquium is to discuss and make generalizations based on differing materials and research.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
